How can I keep my dog from roaming my yard looking for lizards?

My 12 lb. Cavashon mix has access to our yard all day. He goes ALL OVER looking for lizards. I don't really know if he is catching them but eventually he is going to run into a snake or a poisionous toad. He goes through and behind the bushes. Please don't tell me to keep him inside.
